Zumbrota Covered Bridge, MN

The Zumbrota covered bridge, dating back to 1869, is Minnesota's sole surviving "covered timber truss" bridge. When you walk through it you see the interior's complex and beautiful lattice construction which greatly enhanced its strength. Interestingly, despite being covered to protect the wood from the elements, in the winter snow was often shoveled onto the bridge to facilitate its use by horse-drawn sleighs. The bridge possesses a time machine-like quality, transporting you to another era while you're inside it and then back to the now when you exit. Worth a visit.
